According to the Focus magazine, the Department of Adult and Pediatric Urology ranks among the top German departments specializing in prostate cancer treatment! The department offers the widest range of modern diagnostic and therapeutic methods for accurate detection and treatment of diseases of the genitourinary system in men and boys. The priority focus of the department is the treatment of prostate cancer (certification of the German Cancer Society).
Department of Urologic Oncology
According to the Focus magazine, the Department of Urologic Oncology ranks among the top medical facilities in Germany specializing in prostate cancer treatment! The department provides the full range of top-class diagnostics and effective treatment of prostate, testicular, kidney, and bladder cancers. Treatment tactics are selected for each patient individually and, in most cases, combine surgical tumor removal with auxiliary conservative methods such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy, antibody therapy, immunotherapy, etc. Malignant tumors are most often resected with minimally invasive techniques or with the help of the innovative da Vinci surgical system. Robot-assisted surgery is characterized by minimal trauma rate, but, at the same time, its effectiveness is not inferior to classical surgery. In addition, the risk of developing erection problems is practically eliminated in robot-assisted interventions for prostate cancer, which makes it possible for a man to have a full sexual life. The main goals of the department's specialists are to provide their patients with interdisciplinary and comprehensive treatment, moral support, and a positive mood for a treatment outcome.
Department of Adult and Pediatric Urology
The Department of Urology and Oncourology annually treats more than 990 men with prostate cancer. The department successfully uses brachytherapy – the implantation of radioactive gold SEED into the affected prostate. Internal irradiation kills cancer cells and spares healthy tissues. The Chief Physician of the department, Prof. Dr. med. Patrick Bastian, is a member of the Working Group on Oncourology, as well as of the European and American Association of Urologists.
