Since April 1, 2014, Prof. Dr. Lars-Johannes Lehmann is the Head of the Department of Traumatology.

Since 2006, Professor Lehmann has headed the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of the Upper Limbs, and since 2008 he has been the Chief Physician and Deputy Director of the Center for Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University Hospital Mannheim.

The main clinical areas include shoulder and elbow surgery, sports traumatology and the most severe injuries (polytrauma, emergency medicine).

After studying medicine at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Professor Lehmann began training in the specialty "Orthopedics" at the Schultstein Hospital in Zurich and at the ATOS Clinic in Heidelberg under the guidance of Professor Habermeier. Then he continued his career at the central hospital of the Bundeswehr in Koblenz at the Center for Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University Hospital Mannheim. After receiving specialization in Orthopedics, the professor also received a specialization in Orthopedics and Traumatology. In addition, the doctor received a specialization in the field of Surgical Orthopedics and Traumatology with additional qualifications "special traumatology", as well as "special orthopedic surgery."

Scientific activity of the doctor completely coincides with the clinical areas of specialization.

After defending his doctoral dissertation on the topic of diagnosing patients with injuries of the highest severity, the professor began publishing scientific works in the direction of his specialization and in the treatment of upper extremities. Particular attention is paid to the replacement of artificial joints, sports injuries and muscle plasty.

Professor Lehmann is a member of the German Society for Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery, and a member of the steering committee. In addition, the doctor is a member of the European Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (SECEC) and the Society of Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery (AGA).

In the German Society of Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow Joint (DVSE), the professor holds the position of the 1st Vice President and Chairman of the Commission "Guidance and Evaluation". Professor Lehmann is the scientific director of the journal Obere Extremität, the author of many textbooks and reviewer of numerous scientific journals in the field of orthopedics and traumatology.

Since 2013, Professor Lehmann regularly enters the rating of the best specialists of Focus magazine in the field of shoulder surgery.
