Carotid artery aneurysm is considered to be one of the most dangerous diseases of the large circulatory system. This disease can develop at any age. It is a fairly common disease. During a carotid artery aneurysm the arterial lumen can extend and the walls of the vessels can protrude. In the area of tissue enlargement it becomes very vulnerable, thin and sensitive to damage.
The hematopoietic system forms a special surface with clots, which accumulate over the course of its existence. Most often aneurysm develops in the carotid artery. There can be a few aneurysms at the same time. It can develop on an external or internal artery. The disease is very dangerous for a human body and can cause harmful consequences.
- Frequent and severe headaches. Headaches can occur without any reason due to fatigue
- Bad sleep
- Dizziness
- Tinnitus
- Pulsation of blood vessels passing through the head and ears, which you have not noticed before
It is impossible to diagnose carotid artery aneurysm without special tests. Despite the fact that the human neck has a very thin and delicate skin, you can hardly see an aneurysm without special equipment. Only in some cases this disease can manifest itself by changing the skin colour. Rapid fatigue can be a symptom of this disease. During the first examination the doctor will palpate the area of the large vessels. If the patient has headaches and a hoarse voice during this palpation, it may indicate an aneurysm.
In order to determine an accurate diagnosis, it is necessary to have additional examinations, such as angiography, ultrasound and sectional roentgenography.
The patient requires surgery for the treatment of carotid artery aneurysm. In case of an aneurysm rapture, the patient has to stay at the hospital with all the necessary conditions. The patient needs bed rest while medical personnel will monitor his/her arterial pressure. The doctor also prescribes special drugs relieving pain.
Transluminal stenting is used to implant a stent in the carotid artery and thus to prevent its stenosis in the future. Stenting can also help to restore the normal carotid artery function and to relieve the patient of the onset of new headaches.
