Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and Treatment of Congenital Heart Defects
The Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and Treatment of Congenital Heart Defects offers the full range of modern examinations of the cardiovascular system and effective surgical treatment for heart pathologies in newborns, infants, adolescents, and adults with congenital heart disease. The department regularly demonstrates high treatment success rates, thanks to which it has gained a reliable reputation in Germany and in the European medical arena. The department annually performs more than 500 surgical interventions on the heart, of which about 360 are performed using a heart-lung machine. In addition, the medical facility is one of the few in Europe that specializes in heart transplants for newborns, young children, and adolescents. About 200 such operations are performed here annually. Pediatric cardiac surgeons cooperate closely with the specialists in pediatric cardiology, which allows them to guarantee comprehensive and the most effective treatment for young patients.
Department of Pediatric Cardiology and Treatment of Congenital Heart Defects
The Department of Pediatric Cardiology and Treatment of Congenital Heart Defects provides the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services in these medical fields. The department specializes in treating congenital heart defects in children, adolescents, and adults. In addition to drug therapy, sparing catheter-based techniques are used here. In a specialized Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, more than 500 catheter-based interventions are performed annually in young patients with congenital heart defects. More than 4,000 children receive counseling and medical care on an outpatient basis. The department's cardiologists also treat about 1,000 adult patients with congenital heart disease each year. Doctors have two advanced Electrophysiology Laboratories for cardiac catheterization with state-of-the-art medical equipment to diagnose and treat this pathology. The department performs more than 1,500 catheter-based cardiac ablation procedures annually. The department's team of doctors also specializes in treating dizziness and fainting. The medical facility has 31 beds for patient hospitalization. There is also a highly specialized Electrophysiology Outpatient Clinic. The department's specialists are distinguished by excellent, narrowly focused training and rich clinical experience, and therefore they regularly demonstrate high success rates in arrhythmia treatment. The German Cardiac Society (DGK) has certified the department to treat atrial fibrillation, one of the most dangerous heart rhythm disturbances.
Department of Adult and Pediatric Diabetology
The Department of Adult and Pediatric Diabetology offers the full range of services for the diagnostics and treatment of all types of diabetes mellitus, including rare forms of this pathology. The department annually provides top-class medical services to about 2,500 patients from various age groups. To date, there are no treatment methods that could lead to a complete cure for diabetes mellitus, so the primary goal of each department's doctor is to control the pathology and provide a patient with diabetes mellitus with a high quality of life. In addition, an important task of the department is the treatment of early and late complications of diabetes mellitus. Of particular interest is the provision of medical care to patients with cardiovascular complications caused by diabetes mellitus. The department has gained a reputation as one of the leading German medical facilities specializing in the treatment of patients with vascular and cardiac diseases caused by diabetes mellitus. The outstanding quality of medical services is evidenced by the certificate of the German Diabetes Society (DDG) and other prestigious certificates. The department's doctors are always open to dialogue with their patients and support them in every possible way during the course of treatment.
Department of General and Interventional Cardiology, Angiology
The Department of General and Interventional Cardiology, Angiology provides the full range of services in these medical fields. The department's doctors successfully carry out examinations to assess the anatomical structures and function of the cardiovascular system, as well as conservative and sparing interventional treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Special attention is paid in the department's clinical practice to the treatment of coronary heart disease, valvular heart disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, inflammatory heart disease, stenosis, and vascular obstruction. The department's specialists have excellent facilities for the most sparing treatment, namely four cardiac catheterization laboratories with a minimum level of X-ray exposure, in which doctors perform procedures using cardiac catheters, as well as two ultra-modern hybrid operating rooms and a chest pain unit. More than 7,000 interventional catheter-based procedures are performed in the department every year. About 5,300 patients receive medical care here annually.
Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery
The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery offers all surgical methods for treating diseases of the heart, blood vessels, and chest organs. The department specializes in minimally invasive interventions on the heart and blood vessels, coronary artery bypass grafting, the treatment of heart arrhythmias, the use of artificial heart assist systems, and transplant medicine, including heart transplants, lung transplants, and heart-lung transplants. More than 2,500 transplants have been performed in the department since 1989. The department's cardiac surgeons often perform complex surgical interventions on the heart, as a result of which they have exceptional experience and save the lives of people with severe pathological changes in the heart. The specialists always strive to select the most sparing surgical techniques and provide their patients with high-quality treatment outcomes. For example, almost all operations for heart valve replacement and repair are performed using minimally invasive techniques. Coronary artery bypass grafting is also often performed using low-traumatic techniques, that is, without a thoracotomy. With more than 3,600 operations every year, the department ranks among the Cardiothoracic Surgery Centers with the greatest clinical and surgical experience in the world.
