Location

Kassel is a German city in the federal state of Hesse. It is located on the Fulda River. Tourists come here to enjoy the beauty of green parks, the grandeur of palaces and exciting excursions to the city museums. In addition, Kassel hosts the renowned contemporary art exhibition "documenta" every five years, as well as the annual documentary film and video art festival "Kasseler Dokfest".

For hundreds of years, the symbol of the city has been the statue of Hercules built on a high pyramid, which crowns the castle at the top of the hill. The copper sculpture of Hercules is 9 meters high. It was created in 1717 and symbolized the victory of a man over nature. The statue is located in the famous Wilhelmshohe Mountain Park, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The park was founded in the XVII century by the order of the Landgrave Karl von Hesse-Kassel. The park also houses the palace of the same name, which has one of the best German art collections, including exhibits of Dutch and Flemish masters. Here one can see masterpieces of Rubens, Rembrandt and many other great artists. Another decoration of the Wilhelmshohe Park is an amazing cascade of waterfalls and fountains. The beauty of the ensemble of the park complex is complemented by a unique and abundant collection of plants brought from different continents of the world.

The Renaissance Karlsaue Park is also one of the best in the city. It is located on the banks of the Fulda River next to the Friedrichsplatz. The foundation of the park dates back to 1568. The park contains many artificial lakes, canals, fountains and wide walkways. Throughout its history, the park has repeatedly expanded and improved, and in the XVIII century a beautiful baroque palace was built on its territory.

Kassel is also known for interesting museums, including the Brothers Grimm Museum, the Museum of Sepulchral Culture and the Fridericianum Museum, which is the main exhibition place for "documenta" exposition and a place for other equally fascinating exhibitions. As any big city, Kassel offers many cozy cafes and luxurious restaurants where one can taste delicious national German cuisine.
