Department of General and Visceral Surgery
The Department of General and Visceral Surgery at the District Hospital of Waldbröl has over 40 beds and is focused on minimally invasive surgery. A special emphasis is also on tumor surgery with preoperative diagnosis and postoperative care, carried out in a close cooperation with the Cancer Unit of the District Hospital of Waldbröl, which is a part of the certified Cancer Center Oberberg.
Department of Ophthalmology
The Department of Ophthalmology at the District Hospital of Waldbröl offers – in cooperation with the ophthalmology office of Dr. Hans-Jürgen Schnell und Dr. Martin Radermacher – outpatient treatment of ophthalmic diseases. The General Medical Practice and the Eye Laser Surgery Center of both ophthalmologists are located in the Medic Center on the hospital grounds.
Department of Gastroenterology
The Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Metabolic Diseases at the District Hospital of Waldbröl has 34 beds. An experienced team of doctors and nurses annually provides treatment to 1,500 inpatients and 1,000 outpatients. The team of the Department takes care of patients with diseases of the digestive organs, liver and metabolism. It is also focused on the treatment of diabetes and impaired fat metabolism. The main focuses of the outpatient clinic of the Department include endoscopy as well as diagnosis and treatment of patients with infectious liver diseases.
Department of Vascular Surgery
The Department of Vascular Surgery at the District Hospital of Waldbröl has 25 beds and deals with the treatment of arteries and veins. The patient care is mostly carried out on the inpatient basis, still there is outpatient treatment as well. The range of services covers both conventional open surgery and modern sparing minimally invasive catheter techniques, such as balloon dilatation and stent implantation.

The Department of Hematology, Oncology, Palliative Medicine, Pneumology and Somnology at the District Hospital of Waldbröl (Medical Department III) has 30 beds. A competent treatment is provided by three medical specialists in the field of hematology and oncology and a professional anesthesiologist. The Department treats patients with oncological diseases on both inpatient and outpatient basis. The Department is especially focused on diagnosis and treatment of cancer of lungs, lymph nodes, leukemia and tumors of the gastrointestinal tract.
Department of Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Facial Surgery
The Department of Otolaryngology at the District Hospital of Waldbröl provides conservative and surgical treatment of all diseases of ear (including hearing improvement), nose, paranasal sinuses, larynx and neck. The surgery is performed on the outpatient basis. There are used the most advanced techniques: endoscopic, microscopic surgical techniques, sonographic imaging techniques with B-Image Doppler examination.
Department of Cardiology
The Department of Cardiology (Medical Department I) at the District Hospital of Waldbröl offers the entire spectrum of cardiologic services at the latest scientific level. One of the main focuses is diagnosis and treatment of coronary arteries (over 3,000 examinations a year). The coronary artery stenosis is effectively treated without narcosis under local anesthesia by means of balloon dilatation (PTCA) and/or stent implantation.
