Department of General, Abdominal and Minimally Invasive Surgery
The Department of General, Visceral and Minimally Invasive Surgery at the Hospital Nordwest in Frankfurt am Main provides the full range of general and visceral surgery (with the exception of organ transplantation). There are annually performed over 2,500 surgical procedures and also a large number of endoscopic operations on the digestive system.
Department of Vascular and Thoracic Surgery
The Department of Vascular and Thoracic Surgery at the Hospital Nordwest under the direction of Prof. med. Max Zegelman has two sections with 36 planned beds. The Department provides conservative, interventional and surgical treatment of arteries, veins and lymphatic vessels. Benign and malignant diseases of the airways, lungs and chest are treated here as well. Pacemakers, defibrillators and port systems are implanted on an inpatient or outpatient basis.
Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Mammology
The Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Mammology offers the full range of services for the diagnostics and treatment of diseases of the female reproductive system. Of particular interest is the treatment of gynecological oncopathology and breast cancer. The surgical options include all classic and modern operations, including minimally invasive interventions, plastic and reconstructive breast surgery. The department is also staffed by highly qualified obstetricians, who provide first-class care for expectant mothers before, during and after childbirth.
Department of Orthopedics, Traumatology and Spine Surgery
The Department of Orthopedics, Traumatology and Spine Surgery at the Hospital Nordwest treats all diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. The treatment of emergency patients involves the use of all modern methods of osteosynthesis of bones, joints, pelvis and spine. There are available conservative and surgical concepts of treatment for muscles, tendons and ligaments. In cooperation with the Departments of Neurosurgery and Vascular Surgery, there is provided the treatment of disorders of nerves and blood vessels.
Department of Oncology and Hematology
The Department of Oncology and Hematology at the Hospital Nordwest is a medical institution, which deals with the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care of patients with benign and malignant tumors of the hematopoietic system, as well as all kinds of cancer. The Department includes 74 beds in its 3 sections, the Palliative Care Center with 10 beds and a day hospital with 6 beds.
Department of Internal Medicine (Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Cardiology, Pneumology)
The Department of Internal Medicine at the Academic Hospital Nordwest treats all diseases in the field of internal medicine. These include general internal diseases, as well as diseases in such fields as gastroenterology / hepatology, pulmonology / sleep medicine, cardiology and intensive care medicine. Overall, the Department annually serves over 5,000 patients in its eight sections. There is maintained close cooperation with the specialized clinics in all focuses of the conservative and surgical medicine.
Department of Urology and Pediatric Urology
The Department of Urology and Pediatric Urology at the Academic Hospital Nordwest treats benign and malignant diseases of the urogenital system in men, women and children. In the field of prostate cancer treatment, the Department meets the strictest quality requirements and is certified by the German Cancer Society as the Prostate Cancer Center.
Department of Neurology
The Department of Neurology at the Hospital Nordwest treats patients with brain and spinal cord diseases of all kinds, as well as diseases of nerves and muscles. The Stroke Unit has 8 beds, the Intensive Care Unit has 4 beds and the specialized Neurological Intensive Care Unit includes 8 beds.
Department of Radiation Oncology
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Hospital Nordwest in Frankfurt am Main provides diagnosis, counseling and treatment for adults with cancer of all organs on an outpatient and/or inpatient basis. The Department annually treats about 1,400 new cancer patients. The Department is the recognized Bowel and Prostate Cancer Center, certified by the German Cancer Society (Onkozert).
