University Hospital Jena

Jena, Germany

According to the prestigious Focus magazine, the University Hospital Jena regularly ranks among the top German medical facilities!

The hospital has positioned itself as a multidisciplinary medical facility with a long history of more than 200 years. Since its foundation, the hospital has been constantly developing and modernizing, thanks to which nowadays it offers patients the highest level of treatment in Germany based on the use of innovative technologies and the very latest therapeutic techniques. The hospital consists of 26 specialized departments and 25 research institutes. It treats more than 53,600 inpatients and about 274,000 outpatients every year. The staff of the hospital includes more than 5,600 competent doctors.

The extensive resources of the university hospital, high treatment standards, and the introduction of new research developments provide first-class treatment in Germany meeting the stringent international standards. The hospital has an excellent reputation not only in Germany, but also far beyond its borders, due to which it accepts a large number of foreign patients for the diagnostics and treatment.

Despite the technical progress and the availability of accurate computerized systems, the patient’s physical health and emotional state is the main value of each employee of the hospital, since some diagnoses cause emotional distress in patients. The doctors of the hospital believe that the key to a successful result is a comprehensive and individual approach, so they spend a lot of time talking with patients, listen carefully to all their wishes and support at all stages of the therapeutic process. All this in combination with high-precision diagnostic techniques and the very latest types of therapy forms a solid basis for the achievement of an optimal treatment result.

Location

Located in Thuringia, in the valley of Saale River, Jena is a large, beautiful and developed city. The city is famous for its Friedrich Schiller University, which was founded in 1558 and today is the biggest university in Thuringia. The main merit of Jena, which distinguishes it from other cities, is its unique scientific ancestry. Ernst Abbe, Carl Zeiss, Otto Schott and many other prominent personalities took care of it.

The past and present of the city is most completely represented on the Market Square. The Town Hall was built in that time, when Jena was a major wine-making center, so it is not surprising that one can see a grape brush sculpture made by a local master above the entrance to the Town Hall. The tower of the building is decorated with a beautiful antique clock, while the center of the square houses a monument of the dignified lord with a sword and an open book. This is the founder of the university, thanks to which Jena has gained the status of a university city.

In addition, the important attractions of the city are the Planetarium and the Optical Museum, which contains invaluable exhibits telling about the history of the development of optics, and the very latest achievements in this industry. The museum is located next to the company "Carl Zeiss Jena", thanks to which Jena became the center of the German optical industry.

A walk through the Botanical Garden of the city will also bring a lot of pleasure. The garden offers over 12,000 plants, which were brought from all climatic zones of the world and planted here. A ginkgo tree in this garden was personally planted by Goethe. The Botanical Garden exists since 1580. Now its territory is 4.5 hectares.

Among the religious monuments particular attention should be given to the Gothic Church of St. Michael, where Luther preached. The 80-meter church bell tower has an observation platform, and under the altar one can see an underground passage, which leads to the Cistercian monastery. The temple has a memorial bronze slab dedicated to Martin Luther.
