Istanbul is an incredible city with Byzantine heritage and eastern charm. This huge and bustling metropolis is located in two parts of the world at once – Europe and Asia. It concentrates a huge number of antiquities and mosques, which reflect the glorious past of the city. At the same time, Istanbul is a very developed city with a large number of modern buildings, huge shopping and business centers, cafes, restaurants, hotels of all levels. Istanbul is rightfully considered the leading economic and cultural center of modern Turkey.
First of all, the guests of the city usually go to the main square called Sultanahmet. The square houses two world famous religious monuments – the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. Both temples amaze with their grandeur, grace and interior decoration. The iconic sights of the metropolis are also considered to be the Basilica Cistern and the Galata Tower, which offers a beautiful panoramic view of the whole Istanbul.
The Topkapi Palace, which used to be the main palace complex of the Ottoman Empire, is also a must-see destination for tourists. It stands on the coast of Seral Cape, on the eastern side of Old Istanbul, overlooking the Bosporus and the Sea of Marmara. The huge Topkapi Palace covers an area of 70 hectares, so it contains many buildings of different purposes, park areas and four spacious courtyards. Of particular interest to the tourists is the harem. The territory of the former kitchens of the palace now offers an exhibition of ceramic products. Particular attention should be paid to the collection of Chinese porcelain, which is inferior in value only to the collection in China. Another luxurious and the most significant palace from the historical point of view is Dolmabahçe. The palace complex is built in baroque style and gives special charm to the Bosporus shores.
Istanbul is a very dynamic city, where life is in full swing. It has many entertainment facilities, including bars, restaurants and nightclubs for every taste. Shoppers can go both to modern shopping centers with a huge range of branded stores, and to the famous and largest eastern market Grand Bazaar, where one can feel the flavor and traditions of eastern trade.
