The Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Infectiology at the University Hospital Cologne, headed by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Tobias Goeser, deals with the treatment of patients suffering from diseases of the digestive system, liver and biliary tract. The treatment involves the use of the latest diagnostic and therapeutic methods combined with the introduction of the results of the department's own research in the field of gastroenterology, hepatology and infectiology.
The department offers services of the unit 18/1, Endoscopy Center, ultrasound diagnosis (of the internal diseases), as well as the specialized day department for providing medical care to the patients with gastroenterological and hepatological diseases.
The department is also focused on the treatment of patients with malignancies of the liver and digestive tract (gastroenterological oncology). These patients are monitored in close cooperation with the Center for Interdisciplinary Oncology.
Within the framework of the multidisciplinary Department of Liver Transplantation, the gastroenterologists and surgeons monitor the patients who need liver transplantation or undergo rehabilitation after the surgery.
