Department of Infectology
The Department of Infectology at the Essen University Hospital deals with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases. The specialized Section provides a multidisciplinary treatment of the entire spectrum of infectious diseases. The Department is especially focused on the immunocompromised patients with infections. The patients with HIV infection and those after organ transplantation accompanied by the immunosuppressive drug therapy are also in the focus of attention.
Department of Human Genetics
The Department of Human Genetics offers the entire range of modern genetic diagnostics and consulting. The department specializes in diagnostics and genetic counseling of patients with syndromal diseases, chromosomal aberrations, hereditary cancer susceptibility, mental retardation, congenital deformities, congenital metabolic disorders, congenital muscular disorders, etc.
Department of Thoracic Surgery and Thoracic Endoscopy
With more than 2,300 interventions annually, the Department of Thoracic Surgery and Thoracic Endoscopy at the Ruhrlandklinik is one of the biggest and most important centers in Germany and Europe. The Department covers the entire range of diseases ranging from the operation of tumors of all kinds, through lung emphysema, to the removal of malformations. Of particular importance is robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery with the surgical robot DaVinci.
Department of General, Abdominal and Transplant Surgery
The Department of General, Abdominal and Transplant Surgery at the Essen University Hospital specializes in oncologic and comprehensive abdominal surgery, particularly, in hepatobiliary surgery. In tight cooperation with the West German Cancer Center (CCC) and the Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Department deals with the treatment of primary liver tumors, metastases and tumors of biliary tracts.
Department of Pediatric Surgery
The Department of Pediatric Surgery is in the Essen University Hospital at the Department of General, Abdominal and Transplant Surgery. In tight and trustful cooperation with the Department of Pediatrics of the Essen University Hospital, there are treated children of all ages from very premature babies and up to adolescents 18 (and in some cases even older).
Department of Vascular Surgery
